Continuing in the theme of fruits you can’t buy at a supermarket (see elderberry pie), this weekend my parents asked me if I could make something out of all of the beach plums growing in their front yard. Now I’d barely heard of a beach plum, let alone eaten one, so this was definitively a creative exercise.
First, let’s just say this about beach plums: they’re grapes, but made out of plum–a perfectly brilliant concept that has left me wondering why I can’t buy these at a grocery store, but moving on. I had it in my head to figure out how to make a fresh fruit tart with the creamy filling like the pretty little ones all over Paris, but you know, vegan and stuff. So now seemed like a good time. Turned out just splendidly–and could easily be done with any fruit, which is good because I don’t anticipate coming into more beach plums any time soon.
